Elementary Songfest

Songfest is a competition in which a club rewrites a song to incorporate the 2023 - 2024 Theme - Beta: A Voyage of Adventure. This competition gives clubs the opportunity to showcase creativity and innovation, performing arts and interpretation of the theme. A club may have only one entry.

Stage is not accessible to any school group except during performance time.

Time Limit: 3 Minutes

Competition Guidelines

  • An adult/participant must check-in with the judges’ table 15 minutes prior to the competition starting if the club is not listed on the app. If the participants leave prior to the end of the competition, they may forfeit the opportunity to compete.
  • The Songfest entry must incorporate the 2023 - 2024 Theme - Beta: A Voyage of Adventure. Interpretation of the theme must be evident throughout the club’s performance.
  • The time limit for the performance is 3 minutes. Timekeeping starts when the vocal performance begins. Groups will have a brief grace period to arrange themselves. Timing begins the moment the pitch is given or first note on the accompaniment track.
  • Hats, gloves, light up suspenders, sunglasses, props, etc. are not allowed during the performance.
  • Stationary movements will be allowed. This means that the students’ feet must remain in place during the performance. Examples of stationary movement are, but not limited to, clapping, finger snapping, swaying and simple gestures that enhance the lyrics.
  • The dress for participants in the performance must be appropriate. No strapless, or low cut tops, no midriffs showing, and inappropriate removal of clothing will result in a deduction of points. Matching shirts, pants, shorts, skirts or school uniforms will be allowed.
  • Costumes are not permitted.
  • All club members on stage must sing.
  • Only microphones provided by the audio visual company hired by National Beta may be used. A maximum of three handheld mics will be permitted.
  • No background vocals are allowed on the accompaniment track. This means no words or computerized/synthesized voices on the accompaniment track.
  • Risers are not permitted.
  • Clubs must provide a typed copy of the original lyrics and typed rewritten lyrics to the coordinator at the time of the performance.
  • SAFETY - No use or portrayal of ANY weapons.
  • SAFETY - Tumbling passes or cheerleading stunts are not allowed with the exception of cartwheels, aerial cartwheels, walk overs, back bends and round-offs performed singularly.
  • SAFETY - The use of fog machines, fire/open flame, hay, balloons, or confetti is not permitted.
  • SAFETY - The use of live animals is strictly prohibited from any National Beta competiton (Excluding service animals).
  • SAFETY - Throwing items from the stage into the audience is not permitted.
  • SAFETY - Metal or wood may not be used in the construction of backdrops. However, metal or wooden bases, no taller than 36 inches, can be used to transport and/or support backdrops. Props (table, chairs, bed frame/headboard, etc.) made of metal or wood may be used as intended.
  • SAFETY - Only portable, choral risers may be used to elevate participants.
  • SAFETY - Skateboards, roller skates, rollerblades or hoverboards are NOT permitted.

  • Register students and then select competitions to enter.
